We, citizens of Ohio, demand that Mike Dewine (United States Senator for Ohio) publically demands an Independent Commission to Investigate Detainee Abuse.

This Independent Commission would be an impartial and independent commission to investigate abuses at Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, Bagram, and other detention centers. Attorney General Gonzales must appoint an independent Special Counsel to conduct criminal investigations of Administration officials, including himself, who are suspected of having authorized or condoned these abuses or had command responsibility for them.

The commission would investigate allegations of torture and ill-treatment of detainees in US custody in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo and elsewhere; examine the extent of the abuses; the policies facilitated abuses or failed to address them, who is responsible for abuses and what legislative actions should be taken to prevent abuses in the future. It is necessary to have a comprehensive, independent and exhaustive investigation in order to address failures that lead to the abuses and to hold accountable those responsible for promoting such policies.
