Door Stewards Against Aberdeen Journals

We the undersigned feel the recent article about the amount of criminal convictions help by Door Stewards in the Aberdeen area, published in the Evening Express was a gross work of scare-mongering and petty, ill-informed sensationalism.

Over these last few years we have as a profession worked hard to show the public that we are not the stereotypical 'bouncer' that seemed prevalent in the 80's, but professionals highly trained in customer care, first aid and hostility management.

Since publication of the article we stewards in Aberdeen have suffered almost nightly insults and accusations based on the article, and it has heavily dented the good name we've worked hard for as a profession. Also, we have found the biased and almost frequent bigoted comments about the people who work in our industry from your reporter Frank Gilfeather to be hateful and very ill-informed.

we would ask that Aberdeen Journals not only reconsider their frequent 'Anti Door Steward' journalistic stance, but would consider putting one of their own reporters through his Aberdeen City Council Steward Licence, and have them work in some of the venues in town over a month long period. I'm sure this would open your eyes to the almost constant verbal and physical assaults we endure on an almost nightly basis.
