7:45 a.m., Tuesday morning. You open up the fridge to start prepping lunch, and ahhh! Forget to go shopping again! The fridge is bare. What will kiddo take for lunch?
This ever happen to you? (please tell me, I'm not the only one)...
Well, just imagine if you knew your child was getting a hot, healthy lunch at school that day... No need to panic. Phew! Real Food for Real Kids to the rescue. Lunch crisis averted. Exhale...
Another parent and myself have been exploring bringing the "Real Food for Real Kids" hot, organic lunch program - "Real Food Lunch CLub" (RFLC) - to Dewson in Sept. 2015. We are collecting names of potentially interested families to ascertain support and then present this to the principal. Please feel free to sign if you would be interested in exploring this further. This is not a 'petition' per se - just an efficient way to gather names to show that there is support for exploring this program at Dewson. We need a minimum of 50 children to sign up to bring the program to Dewson. There are already over 30 participating schools in Toronto. They can provide lunches for 3 - 5 days per week, and 3 is the minimum.
RFRK will be attending the next parent council meeting on May 11, to share information about how the program works and answer any questions people may have.
Here is a bit about the program: You can alse read about it at www.rfrk.com/catering/lunchclubs
Lunch is $5.00 - $5.25 +HST per meal, with a $4.00 + HST option. (Staff can also sign up for $3.50 + HST).
RFLC also offers one child join to free of charge for every 20 children enrolled as a way to reduce barriers to access. (They also have other matching initiatives you can check out on their website).
My son attended the West End YMCA for child care where he enjoyed RFRK catering. It was such a relief to know how well he was eating every day (better than us, in fact!). They have a diverse menu with lots of flavours, and so it is a great way for kids to enjoy a wide variety of foods. They can accommodate food allergies and sensitivities as well.
So please consider adding your name if you are interested (this does not lock you into a commitment, it just helps us move forward to next steps of exploring). ANd of course, you can attend the parent council meeting on May 11 to get even more info.
Sincerely,
Sara Marlowe & Mike Brcic
