We find Coach Gailey to be a man of great class, dignity, and honesty. We commend his efforts at Georgia Tech and find him to be in the vein of the great coaches of our past such as the great Bobby Dodd and John Heisman. We are proud to have him manning the sidelines at Tech.
In addition to these reasons, which are significant enough, we would like to make note of the following:
Coaching stability is a key to any programs success. We feel that our recruiting has been compromised by not having Coach Gailey locked into a longer term deal. High school players do not generally take chances with hot seat coaches.
We feel that AD Braines 8 wins quote must have been taken out of context and we would like to see this rectified. With our past experience with Mens Basketball Coach Paul Hewitt we know that our AD has the fortitude to allow his coaches to be successful and we are sure Mr. Braine is on our side.
Coach Gailey is a master evaluator of talent. His ability to place players in positions to succeed is unmatched.
The Head Football Coaching job at Georgia Tech is quite possibly the most difficult in all of the NCAA Division 1. Coach Gailey has admirably negotiated the strict academic standard which we pride ourselves, we play in the toughest football conference in the country and consistently seek out tough out-of-conference battles, Our high academic standards are further made difficult by the narrow curriculum, Fan expectations at Georgia Tech are as high as any school in the country but is fueled by a smaller fan base than many larger schools resulting in a moniker of a school with poor fan support. Coach Gailey has more obstacles to overcome than any other coach in the country.
Despite the aforementioned difficulty of coaching at Georgia Tech Coach Gailey does not shirk, but rather embraces the challenge. He wants to be at Georgia Tech. An average man would seek asylum in one of your Football Factories. Coach understands our mantra of we want to beat UGA, not be UGA!
We feel that expectations for and evaluations of Coach Gailey should take into consideration the aforementioned difficulties at Tech and the state of the program when he arrived, the difficulty recruiting due to the late time of his hire in year one, the loss of 11 scholarship athletes brought in by the previous regime due to academic issues, and the resulting reduction in scholarships.
We do not want to participate in, or be associated with, the insipid culture of win now that has infected college athletics. We feel Coach Gailey is doing it right and we would not have it any other way. It takes time to build a program with a strong and honest foundation.
We admire Coach Gaileys upbeat, positive attitude and decided lack of excuse-making.
We would like to counterbalance the negative, vocal minority who are too short sighted to see the dignity of our coach and maintain that these are not true Tech fans nor do the represent the majority of us.
We find Coach Gailey to be sincere and honest and a man for whom we would like to see our children play. We trust he would care for and protect them as we would.
We maintain that Coach Gailey will win games, championships, and Bowl games. The greatest advertisement for a school is its athletic programs. There is also a direct correlation between alumni giving and winning athletics.
We find Coach Gailey to be a true Tech man and we look forward to enjoying the spoils of his football ingenuity and experience along with the knowledge of the fine young men will bring to Georgia Tech.
