A multi-purpose room specified for Fairwood Elementary is woefully insufficient to provide for daily, quality physical education for our elementary-aged children. A small community activity room is insufficient to accommodate the vision we have of a community-based school. The only way to achieve the goal of our elementary-aged children receiving daily, quality physical education, for quality sporting and large-group activities for our children after school, and for our community to have shared facility for recreation, meeting, and community program activities is for the school to have a full-fledged, 6,000-7,000 square foot gymnasium.
Thus, we formally petition Prince Georges County Schools and Prince Georges County Council to approve the funds to include construction of a full-fledged gymnasium into the overall construction of Fairwood Elementary School, to open August 2010.
