FREDDIE SHEPHERD OUT

Those of us that have been around a reasonable amount of time, have been through a rollercoaster ride due to this love for the club. From the traumatic times of the late seventies, the high of Keegan, Beardsley and Waddle winning promotion to the battle with McKeag and Co. slowly losing power against John Hall and The Supporters for Change group, flying high to dream levels with possibly the greatest Newcastle side ever seen, reaching 100 games in European competition and appearing in FA cup finals to the dark days of the Souness regime, these are just a few pivotal times in the clubs recent history. Of course younger supporters aren't immune these feelings either, as mentioned most will have experienced the dark days of Souness, but also the highs of Bobby Robson's tenure.
BUT
they, along with the rest of us are now being taken as MUGS, by Freddie Shepherd and his associated cronies.
He has embarrassed us several times already, the NOTW expose, his belittlement of lower league clubs at Soccerex in Dubai and his constant stream of ridiculous comments about our recently vacant managerial post, being just three disastrous episodes that gives the rest of the country an opportunity to laugh at us. Laugh at us because of one man, Freddie Shepherd.
Please read the article below, taken from the Daily Mail on the 4th of Oct 2007, written by Paul Hayward.
Newcastle seem cursed by the owners
Newcastle united, that House of Fog beside the Tyne, edge closer to a takeover as the Hall and Shepherd families split into rival camps.
The inside track is that Sir John Hall and son Douglas are willing to sell for a profit, while Freddy Shepherd has been increasing his shareholding to protect himself against any unilateral decision the Halls might make.
Another dismal season is unfolding for Newcastle fans, who have watched Shepherd and Douglas Hall draw tens of millions of pounds in salaries and dividends while bringing chronic instability to the playing side of their sleeping club.
Their legacy will be a cathedral of a stadium, Alan Shearer's goals and Michael Owen's audacious capture from Real Madrid.
But when the reckoning comes, many will zoom in on the ruthless sacking of Sir Bobby Robson, the random comings and goings of sub-standard players and the 3.million paid out in agents' fees and VAT in the 32 months to June 2004.
This story ought to have received more airplay. At a recent VAT tribunal hearing, it emerged that Ashley Cole's agent Jonathan Barnett, through his Stellar group, invoiced Newcastle for 775,500 between May 2002 and November 2003.
This fee related to a contract renegotiation for a single player: probably the perennially injured Kieron Dyer.
A poor haul of seven points from as many Premiership games and an abject display at Manchester United have put the buzzards back in the sky above St James' Park.
Owen's metatarsal and cruciate-knee ligament injuries, meanwhile, lent new weight to the suspicion that Newcastle are afflicted by some kind of curse.
But don't look for witches. It's not an exorcist the Geordie giant needs.
It's a change of ownership.
