FREE OZMAN FROM HIS OZBAN

Dear libra;

I have been informed by the IRCop, Gremlin[A], that some months ago you put the chatter "Ozman" on akick. Gremlin[A] pointed out he does not remove anyone else's akicks, so I thought it pertinent to form an online petition as asking or sending memos up to this point has been to no avail.

I wish to put forth the following "statement of facts" in defense of Ozman:

1. The channel is #atheism, and as such, while it is not a channel specifically for atheists, it is a channel in which people should be able to come together to discuss atheism, atheists and their beliefs or lack thereof.

2. Ozman is considered a regular chatter in #atheism, where he knows many of the other "regular" chatters. He has never before been reported or considered a room disturber.

3. Ozman was labeled unfairly as a room disturber. As the people who were disturbed by Ozman were Muslim, perhaps they should have joined #Islam_Chat instead, where they are able to discuss their religion freely and Ozman would have been banned for his part of the discussion.

4. This difference in oper rules is irrelevant regardless of the channel being public or private. Ozman was not disrespectful, he simply professed his disbelief in Islam and therefore was banned as a result. This seems a bit of a double-standard given its a chatroom labeled #Atheism.

5. It has been several months since Ozman was banned, and there are other chatters who harass and room disturb who have never been banned. Up until recently, "tom" was allowed in #Atheism and he was consistently complained about by the regular chatters. So how is it fair that someone who regularly disrupts the flow of chat is not banned, and someone who actually contributes decent debate to the chat is?

6. 30 days is a lengthy ban, and its extremely rare you issue bans for such duration, in that I wish to request that you lift the ban and give Ozman a reprieve, and if, should it be the case, later on his behaviour is still considered inappropriate, you may feel free to ban him.



I respectfully submit this statement for your consideration and ask you kindly to ignore the atrocious comma splices.
