IGN.com's Insider service requires payments of $20 per year, or $7 for three months. This is all well and good since you are paying for exclusive information.
However, the message boards are not free if you wish to make use of an avatar or the standard private messaging system that comes free with all other board systems. In fact, the board system of IGN.com is, in itself, inadequate as compared to that of the all-famous vBulletin, or InvisionBoard software. Thus, why should you pay for a lesser board?
Pay for the site, sure. Pay for the boards? Nope. Some people use the boards alone, and don't even bother with the rest of the site. Should they have to pay for STANDARD FEATURES? Nope.
