While dredging is the ultimate solution for weed removal, (NOT THE CURE) we all saw this spring that one weed harvester certainly was not the answer. It would take four or five harvesters to effectively trim the weeds in the southern and northern ends for spring use of the lake.
NON-TOXIC CHEMICALS should be used in conjunction with the harvester for safe and quicker removal of the weeds. NON-TOXIC CHEMICALS are now safely being used in hundreds of lakes and reservoirs. Using chemicals will prove to work much faster and be more economical then having to use four or five harvesters.
This spring (2006) the southern end of Greenwood Lake was virtually impassible for four to five weeks due to the amount of weeds in and on the surface of the lake. This is a very dangerous situation for swimmers and boaters alike. The coast guard and various law enforcement agencies refuse to patrol the southern end of Greenwood Lake in the spring and late summer due to the danger posed by the amount of weeds.
By using NON-TOXIC CHEMICALS in conjunction with the weed harvester, chemicals would allow the lake to be available to swimmers, fisherman, boaters, and skiers much sooner.
It is unconscionable that major sections of the lake in New York and New Jersey should not be available for six to eight weeks to local taxpayers and visitors alike.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO USE NON-TOXIC CHEMICALS IN GREENWOOD LAKE.
