Help Save the National Lighthouse Museum

To all, Lighthouse Action and Mobilization Planners,
If you are not currently aware of the status of the National Lighthouse Museum adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, the Museum is in danger of becoming non-existent. The board of directors is disbanding and unless another group of concerned individuals becomes involved the museum may never open. Despite several million dollars in funding during the last ten years the museum has never opened its doors. A grassroots community effort can save this project.
To accomplish this goal several things must happen, a new group of individuals must take the helm of the museum and form a rescue plan. This rescue plan must include the return of the historic lightship the Nantucket to its berth at the museum on Staten Island; the museum must be granted full autonomy to manage the museum grounds and new funding must be obtained from various sources including public, private and individual contributions. An additional goal for the museum that can attract funding must also be found, one possibility is an environmental education center.
The success of this rescue plan will be based on a commitment to open the museum immediately, this will require that volunteers be recruited to help clean up the grounds and staff an information booth for at least the first year of the museum's existence. Above all in order to save this amazing Staten Island opportunity public support is necessary. That is why this letter was written and given to you. Please acknowledge your support to save the National Lighthouse Museum by signing this letter and if possible making copies and obtaining additional signatures.
