Inclusion of Sindhi in Cambridge O Level System Examination

As we see that in Cambridge International O Level system of Examination, there is a list of optional subjects such as: Urdu, Pakistan Studies, Islamiat. Every year thousands of students from Pakistan appear in these exams to earn their international recognized degree from Cambridge University.

Pakistan is a most Muslim-populated country in the world with Urdu as national language and English as official Language. Cambridge University recognized the status and importance of Urdu and admitted it in its examination system for Pakistani students.

But the sorry state of affairs is that one of the oldest and widely spoken languages of Pakistan, Sindhi has been neglected so far. It has been deprived of its right to be the part of Cambridge International O Level Examination. Since thousands of Sindhi students from Pakistan and India lose touch with their mother tongue and are forcefully taught those subjects which they are not interested in.

FACTS ABOUT SINDHI
Sindhi is spoken by 24,410,910 people in Pakistan, and is also spoken in India by 2,535,485 speakers.
It is the third most spoken language of Pakistan, and the official language of Sindh in Pakistan, and is spoken in many Sindhi enclaves in India, notably Ulhasnagar, commonly called Sindhu Nagar.
It is also an official language of India.
The government of Pakistan issues national identity cards to its citizens only in two languages, Sindhi and Urdu, although Sindhi does not have official language status in Pakistan, unlike in India.
It is an Indo-Aryan language of the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family.
Most Sindhi speakers in Pakistan are concentrated in the Sindh province.
The remaining speakers are found in India and amongst the Sindhi diaspora community which are scattered throughout the world.
The Sindhi language has spread as the Hindu/Sikh Sindhis left Sindh for India due to the Partition of India in 1947.
Sindhi has a vast vocabulary and a very old literary tradition.
In India, especially in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and in many educational institutions Sindhi is taught either as the medium of instruction or as a subject.
We, the people of Sindh and speakers of Sindhi, want the status of Sindhi to be recognized and included in Cambridge International O Level system of Examination as a compulsory and optional subject so that million of Sindhi speakers who live across the globe can benefit from this step and preserve the history and heritage of Sindhi language. With this step, Sindhi language will be part of information technology and will continue to exist.
