International Support For The Wider Televising Of 'Heartland'

This Petition is an indication and a collection of the names and email addresses of viewers and fans of the Canadian television series "Heartland", broadcast and admin istrated by the network CBC (TM), and produced by Dynamo Films (TM) and S24 Films (TM), who agree that this television series is one of the highest standard, and one whose message, cast and location should be made available to a much wider audience internationally than it currently extends to. In its series premiere in Canada, Heartland attracted 513,000 viewers. After four episodes, Heartland had an average viewership of 464,000. The third season premiere brought in over 1 million viewers, a new record for the show. As the current season of Heartland is only available to those living in Canada however, a wide global following has developed, the majority of whom watch each weeks episode on the video-sharing site YouTube (TM). For example the last episode to air before the winter hiatus received 12158 hits for its opening part across only three channels (by 3/01/10). There are also a wide variety of websites and forums dedicated to the show (for example: www.iloveheartland.com, etc.). We, the undersigned, believe that the show would be an excellent choice of programming for any station. As a drama it raises many relevant and important issues found in society, such as grief, neglect, animal cruelty, fostering, divorce and spousal abuse, as well as teaching youngsters about the importance of finding a career to which you can devote passion. It has been hailed as a breakthrough family series; as well as a way of drawing children into reading, as it is based on the series of books of the same name, authored by Lauren Brooke. The drama was being broadcast on E4 in the United Kingdom, but there is no indication on their website that they plan on continuing this, or that they plan on picking up the second season of the show. An example of large fan base Heartlands draws can be found on the comments list of the E4 Heartland Webpage (http://www.channel4.com/programmes/heartland/episode-guide/series-1/episode-13). They include quotes such as: please show heartland more often please please please i know a tonne of people who would watch it Meagan, 14/11/09 and I love the Heartland series! I am really glad it has been made into a TV programme after purchasing and reading all the books when I was younger Aimeeeee 11/10/09.
We believe that the show is a fine showcase for television; and hope that we may draw some attention to an otherwise overlooked stunning success. If nothing else we wish to register our support for the show, and to say that we would be much more than happy to watch it if broadcast.
