9:00 p.m., Park Hayarkon, Tel Aviv the designated time for your concert and you're not there.
But we were!
Nothing could prevent us from coming not the war in the north, not your cancellation and not our disappointment.
We were all there several days before the concert, when they put up the stage. However skeptical we were the past six months, the moment we saw the stage it all changed. It was clear that there was no turning back, that the show would go on as planned.
And there we were, on the day and time of the concert trying to understand what exactly happened, or rather what did not happen.
Our country is a melting pot of immigrants. I, for example, was born in Hungary, raised in Ukraine and at the age of 13 moved to the Holy Land. My friend was born in Argentina, raised in Portugal and moved here when he was 20. Another friend was born in Russia, raised in the United States and from there moved here to Israel. One way or another, we've all made a long journey to get here. And there we all were, disappointed over your cancellation. In which other country would you find such a crowd from all over the world? And where else would you find a crowd that would show up even when the show is cancelled? Doesn't this show you something?
If you thought for a moment that due to our disappointment we would have written you off for good then you're mistaken. Sure, we were disappointed, let down and angry. There were those among us who put off trips abroad because we assumed you were coming here. People took off vacation days from work for the scheduled concert date, and what's most important people waited for you. But nothing and no one will take away the hope we've had these past 25 years that one day we too will have cause to celebrate. That one day the political situation here will dissipate, that one day all of our Arab neighbors will leave us in peace. That one day the dream will come true: you on the stage here in front of 50,000 fans who have been loyally following you around the world, hearing you shout "Good evening, Tel Aviv!" Yes, that was us there in Prague that was us who came in more than 2 packed airplanes. That was also us who came to both your performances in London. We saw you in Turkey, in Budapest, Milan, Frankfurt and Paris. But it just doesn't compare to a performance in our own backyard, when we get to host you.
So give us that chance. Don't let us just raise our hands in despair and give up. We still live by the motto that "Nothing is Impossible", and we want to continuing believing in this.
So what exactly do we want? See the love we have that is stronger than ever, even after your cancellation and surprise us. You will obviously be making up other cancelled performances in your tour in Japan, South America and Australia towards the end of the year. You won't want to disappoint those fans. So if you and your entire technical crew has to organize themselves again, why not consider the 50,000 fans waiting for you in our small country and just come here because we haven't given up on you!
With much admiration,
50,000 eager fans
