We, the American Citizens who are proud to call ourselves Good, Moral People, are OUTRAGED at the way in which UCLA student, Mostafa Tabatabainejad, was recently handled in Powell Library on UCLA's campus.
Because Mr. Tabatabainejad was unable to produce his student identification card, he was stunned with a taser gun at LEAST four separate times.
The UCLA website http://www.dailybruin.com/news/articles.asp?id=38960 sites the following: "A six-minute video showed Tabatabainejad audibly screaming in pain as he was stunned several times with a Taser, each time for three to five seconds. He was told repeatedly to stand up and stop fighting, and was told that if he did not do so he would "get Tased again."
Tabatabainejad was also stunned with the Taser when he was already handcuffed, said Carlos Zaragoza, a third-year English and history student who witnessed the incident.
'(He was) no possible danger to any of the police," Zaragoza said. "(He was) getting shocked and Tasered as he was handcuffed.' "
Further more, a taser gun can often leave a person paralyzed for at least 15 seconds, making it virtually impossible for Mr. Tabatabainejad to comply with the officers to stand up.
The website goes on to state, "As Tabatabainejad was being dragged through the room by two officers, he repeated in a strained scream, 'I'm not fighting you' and 'I said I would leave.' "
Even as fellow students asked the officers for their identification and badge numbers, the officers REFUSED: this is absolutely illegal. They knew what they were doing was just plain wrong.
We, as Americans, are horrified, disgusted and nauseated by the completely unethical behavior these officers showed. We stand up as a united front in support of Mr. Mostafa Tabatabainejad and we DEMAND that justice be shown. He could be your brother, your son, your boyfriend, your friend, your classmate. Thank you,
Your Felllow Students and Americans
