We, the undersigned, believe that the character of Den Watts should not be axed from Eastenders next year. Den Watts is the greatest character in Eastenders, and is probably the most famous soap character of all time. He has been at the centre of some of the shows biggest, best and most exciting storylines, such as: The Christmas Day divorce, the torching of the Dagmar bar, the Michelle Fowler affair, his return from the dead, setting up Phil Mitchell for armed robbery, and now is part of a great ensemble including his son Dennis, Dot Branning, and his wife Chrissie. There is no other character as consistently interesting, devious, evil, charming and likeable as Dirty Den, and his removal now would be a disastrous decision, forced upon the EE producers by tabloid pressure. All of the best storylines over the past year have had Den in the middle: His comeback, his clash with Phil, his affair with Kate, splitting up Sharon and Dennis and especially the two-handers with Dot Cotton and Chrissie. He's the king of the Vic, king of the square and king of the show, and viewers do not want to see him leave!
Come on Kathleen Hutchison - Don't axe Eastenders' best-ever character!
