To Whom It May Concern:
We are petitioning on behalf of Joel Basco, who has been placed on interim suspension by the University as a result of recent charges of animal cruelty. While we know that what he did was wrong, we do not believe that he is a danger to the VCU community and should therefore be allowed to return to classes. He is an active member of this community through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and has been a Teaching Assistant for the School of Nursing. By signing this petition we are not defending his actions, we are simply attesting to what we know to be his true character.

Regardless of what allegations may have come against Joel, I believe he is a kind person who is no threat to others and seeks to help people whenever he can. Preventing him from finishing his nursing education would be a detriment to the medical community
