Manditory imobilizer

The mission of this petitions is to gather a list of all parties opposed to Manitobas legislation which would force owners of most at risk vehicles to have an approved immobilizer installed. This petition is not intended to oppose the use of immobilizers to combat auto theft but rather to defend Manitobans right to chose whether or not they wish to have an immobilizer installed. While MPI claims the immobilizer is free there are hidden costs such as bypassing factory anti-theft devices and ensuring compatibility with remote start devices. Most at risk vehicle owners would be forced to pay these fees of be left car less.

MPI only will provide you with one key FOB meaning only one set of keys will start your car, more Fobs must be purchased at your expense.

Any future failures of the immobilizer unit or problems related to the immobilizer will not be covered by MPI. Basically if your car wont start YOU PAY the tow and the cost of repair.

MPI claims to have few failures of the immobilizer units. While this may be true an immobilizer is an electronic device that incorporates components with life spans and tolerances and there for is subject to failure just as with any other device. There is also no way to precisely control the quality of every install so while the unit may not fail a low quality install may leave you stranded and out of pocket.

Again I would like to emphasize that this petition is not opposed to immobilizer use but rather to the government forcing its use upon Manitoba residents. By signing this petition your are helping stand up for your freedom to choose and forcing the government to think about dealing with auto theft the correct way with improved law enforcement and better laws now with some whimsical idea to make cars theft proof.
