We, the fans of the original 'Melrose Place,' would like to express our disapproval of the new series' decision to kill the character Sydney Andrews, and request that this move be undone.
Sydney Andrews is a fan-favorite character, and fan support is what brought the original series the success that it enjoyed, thus allowing this spin-off to be put into production. As a result of your decision, the very fans who you seek to attract with figures such as Sydney are now being driven away. If the character is truly killed off, several fans have declared their intentions to cease viewing of the series once her story line ends, while others presently intend to boycott entirely.
While we understand and respect your desire to avoid relying on members of the old cast, it is not necessary to write the character off in this manner. Similarly, while we also understand and respect your desire to present a murder mystery, we do not wish for this character to be the victim. If the move is intended to engage us emotionally, it has instead done the exact opposite: created an early resentment and detachment.
If you would like our support once Laura Leighton departs the show, we request that this move be amended so that her character survives in the end.

How about, she's dead for 5 minutes, sees Kimberly in Hell. Kimberly sends her back to life with an evil plot to kill Michael. She comes back and all hell breaks loose.

The only reason why I planned to watch the new Melrose Place was for Sydney. Aftter hearing that she will be killed off in the first episode, I will not bother waisting my time watching this show. There is no point in bringing her back from the dead to on
