We, the undersigned members of the Eastern Washington University community, ask you to seriously consider moving to a semester-based academic calendar.
80\% of all colleges and universities use a semester-based calendar, and this number grows every year as the number of universities using the quarter system declines. Eastern Washington University is part of a rapidly vanishing minority of schools clinging to an outdated system. This means that our instructional and athletic calendars are out alignment with the vast majority of U.S. institutions of higher learning. Numerous studies have demonstrated that college-level instruction and research are enhanced with semesters. The transition to semesters requires a bold vision for the future, and we ask you to provide that leadership.
