New Policies
Voters give the Fort Zumwalt School District (Fort Zumwalt R-2, Saint Charles County, Missouri) the Tax Increase that was on the ballot in recent months and now they're outlawing privileges given to students last year. The district is attempting to be proactive in the education community by issuing these policies, but at the expense of student privileges. After each description of the policy that students object to, there is a link to a reputable news article explaining the new policy.
I. Cell Phone Use Fort Zumwalt has decided to ban cell phone usage during school hours. This includes during lunch and passing time. With cell phone use being completely abolished during school hours, how are students supposed to contact their parents/family/siblings/bosses in case of an emergency? How will parents/family/siblings/bosses reach students in an emergent situation? How is the district going to be able to enforce this rule with faculty/staff? II. Healthy Food Policy Fort Zumwalt has decided to initiate a policy outlawing soda and other vending machines. With the soda machines being locked up until after school, what is going to keep some students running? What is going to keep some students awake? All Fort Zumwalt is managing to do is increase the number of students sleeping in class, and decreasing the number of students graduating because of this new 5-year policy. Help us tell the school board that their policies are largely unpopular and far-fetched. If you wish to send a message to the Fort Zumwalt School District, telling them that these policies are not even remotely plausible, please sign this petition.

Goals for the Fort Zumwalt School District to recognize:
1.) Make both new policies clearer and more understandable to parents, registered voters, and students.
2.) Reconsider both policies by talking with parents, registered voters, and student representatives in all Fort Zumwalt schools.

Sidenote: We are not asking the Fort Zumwalt School Board to get rid of or change the policies just yet. We are asking the board to look over and reconsider the policies at this time.
