We, the Understated, would like to see Presidential Candidate Barack Obama select Ms. Oprah Winfrey as his Vice-Presidential running mate in 2008.
An "Obama/Winfrey" platform, while to many seeming controversial in nature, could offer a solidified base of constituents, outside of the religious fanaticism driving our current administration, actively participating in the political sphere.
Ms. Winfrey is a force to be reckoned with. FDR's 'Fireside Chats' are touted as creating a concensus for discussion amongst Americans at large by using radio as a means of disseminating information. Ms. Winfrey has used the tools of mass communication to elevate a general awareness amongst people, garnering millions of avid supporters. People often disparage her Reading Group, avoiding the fact that she is inspiring millions of people worldwide to pick up a book in the first place. She seems an intelligent, caring woman and is more personable than Dick Cheney at a Bohemian Grove after-party.
Mr. Obama has already been compared by many to JFK, Lincoln and other illustrious leaders. Perhaps due to this moxie, he has recently recieved Secret Service protection earlier than any previous candidate for national office. His leadership, in our humble opinion, represents the best bet Americans have at having some kind of a say in what is going on in this country.
This time, and every time AFTER this time, let us rest assured our Voices, and our Votes, will count.
