Dear Chris Hatzis,
First; we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to WBAI and the Pacifica Foundation.
We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this petition for your consideration.
In February of 2011, WBAI lost one of it's most prestigious programs, the "Moorish Orthodox Radio Crusade." Bill Weinberg, who was co-host of this program, is an expert on indigenous populations throughout the world.
Mr. Weinberg is the editor of the World War 4 Report, and he also works as a freelance journalist.
Mr. Weinberg recently completed an assignment in Cajamarca, Peru, for The Progressive magazine. He has given many lectures and interviews, and was a guest on "Democracy Now," on July the 6th.
Along with his (frequent) co-host, Ann-Marie Hendrickson, Bill Weinberg always presented programs which were engrossing, insightful, and which contained music selections of indigenous populations that added color to the presentation.
Bill Weinberg was unfairly dismissed, after having taken a very principled stand against several questionable premiums which tarnished WBAI's mission. The former Program Director did not, unfortunately, have a background in programming, but rather, in fundraising.
It is our understanding that you, Mr. Hatzis, have first-hand experience with working in non-profit radio, and it is our sincere hope that you will evaluate the "Moorish Orthodox Radio Crusade" through archived programs, and will return the program to WBAI's airwaves.
We appreciate your consideration in the matter; thank you very much.
