Whereas the Board of Governors agreed to sell the Southlands to Tribute Communities without a public tender, to a business associate of a principle of the York University Development Corporation, and at a price well below what the Board had initially hoped to raise from the sale;
Whereas the completion of the Accolade Project, to which Tribute Communities made a $2 million donation (the largest amongst private donors) and which houses facilities for the Fine Arts, could positively affect the value of lands now owned and being developed by Tribute;
Whereas this decision to rename the building was undertaken by the Board of Governors in camera, a move usually reserved for discussions relating specifically to legal, labour, personnel, or government policy issues;

Whereas this decision represents the first instance of a campus building being named after a corporate entity or organization;
Whereas this decision suggests a lack of administrative accountability to faculty and students following widely publicized concerns regarding the lack of public student space and the increasing commercialization and commodification of space on campus and generally in the University;
Be it resolved that we, the undersigned, strongly disapprove of the renaming of the Accolade West Building.
