Dear Outdoor Educators and Supporters,
This email concerns the inclusion of Outdoor Education in the new National Curriculum. The future of our subject area depends on your advocacy for our subject.
Outdoor Education has a tradition as being within the Health and Physical Education learning Area (HPE). In June 2012 The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) will release the final draft of its Scoping Paper for HPE. The paper will outline propositions for HPE, strands, aims, proposed structure, scope and sequence of content. It also outlines how HPE contributes to General Capabilities and Cross curriculum priorities. It will be the main guide for the shape of the Health and PE learning area into the next decade.
Outdoor Education is presently arguing for its distinctiveness and need to be included in the national curriculum final draft.
Through this petition we are trying to obtain as many signatures of support for Outdoor Education to be included in the new National Curriculum.
Please sign this petition of support and forward on to your colleagues and friends so that we can present these to the ACARA Board and show that Outdoor Education is a valid and rich source of educational experiences that promotes health, well being and life long learning that is not normally available in main stream education.
You can comment specifically on how the draft Health and Physical Education shaping paper needs to further include outdoor education by visiting http://www.acara.edu.au/curriculum/hpe.html
