Petition for Investigations of the Petroleum Industry

Regarding the price increases in fuel during the aftermath of the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon. On September 11, 2001, our great country was the victim of a horrific and cowardly act of war. Words fail to describe our emotions to this as probably the greatest tragedy in American history. Countless American citizens, without regard to their own safety and without intentions of reward or recognition, have stepped forward to aide their fellow Americans in their time of need and despair. Thus, honestly depicting the true patriotic spirit of the United States as a whole. Sadly, there were those who knowingly and callously sought to exploit this tragedy. Not an enemy several thousands of miles away, but by greed here at home. I/we name the petroleum industry as the biggest exploiter of all. Seeking a profit, some (not necessarily all) in the petroleum industry intentionally gouged citizens with outrageous prices for fuel, in some cases, reaching over ten dollars ($10) nationally. Which in turn, created unnecessary panic and turmoil to a country already grief-stricken by atrocities happening only moments earlier. We, as Americans cannot tolerate vulgar and disgraceful behavior by individuals and industries that seek to reap wealth at the expense of American lives. I/we call for inquiries and investigations into this matter. The United States government should intervene and seek/bring criminal charges against all private and corporate owned petroleum businesses for their acts, which were inhumane and unpatriotic. I/we believe heavy and substantial fines should be imposed to all involved. Fines should be equivalent if not higher than the profits that were made. These fines should then be donated to the families of the victims of the World Trade Center buildings and the Pentagon, and to aide in the ongoing rescue and refurbishing/rebuilding efforts.
