Petition to keep Puesta Del Sol's Kindergarten program with three designated full day classes and one designated half day class.
The reason for the petition:
1) There was no communication to parents about the change in the lottery system prior to the lottery taking place.
2) The half day program is rare in the BSD, and while Puesta Del Sol has fabulous advantages (ie. high test scores, language immersion), many parents see the half day class as a critical factor when making this our school of choice.
3) While we have been told that our half day students will receive the same education in a blended class environment as they currently do in a half-day dedicated class, this is simply unrealistic.
4) The current system seems to have a bias against half day students.
The proposed solutions:
1) Reinstitute the four options on the lottery card for future years. (a. Half day only b. Full day only c. Prefer half day, but will take full day d. Prefer full day, but will take half day)Puesta should commit to having three full day classes and a half day class for future years. If in the future enrollment does not favor this ratio, engage with parents to negotiate a solution most beneficial to our children.
2) For this year, reinstate a half day kindergarten class with the 20 children who have indicated interest in it. As the waiting list becomes activated, select students willing to take half day.
