Dear Marvel Comics,
We, the fans, are concerned about the current mystery about the Spider-Man villain known as Mysterio. In the comics, Quentin Beck/Mysterio apparently committed suicide in front of the superhero Daredevil in "Daredevil", vol. 2, #7. Mysterio resurfaced in "The Amazing Spider-Man", vol. 2, #7-8, in which he had abducted those who had encounters with Spider-Man (including Flash Thompson, Mary Jane Watson-Parker and even her husband Peter Parker, Spider-Man's alter-ego) and placed them in an illusionary world with special tanks in an attempt to find out Spidey's secret identity. Mysterio explained he studied with those who taught him true mind control and perfected these skills against Daredevil, and, as he claimed, "bowed out in a most spectacular fashion". He escaped without learning Spidey's identity when the illusion had failed.
After helping the super-villain group known as the Sinister Six on two occassions (first in "Amazing" #12 and "Peter Parker: Spider-Man", vol. 2, #12 in October of 1999; the second time was in "Amazing" #17 and "Peter Parker" #17, in March of 2000), Mysterio appeared in "The Mysterio Manifesto" mini-series in Nov. 2000 to Jan. 2001. It was supposed to explain who Mysterio was -- if it was Quentin Beck who was somehow alive or resurrected, or the second Mysterio Daniel Berkhart, or someone new entirely.
Instead, the story had Mysterio team up with Jack O'Lantern to get revenge on Spider-Man and Daredevil by abducting them and placing them in the "perfect world" tanks. Some people Mysterio knew, including J. Jonah Jameson, Betsy Schnieder and her husband Joe Smith, were also abducted and fooled by robotic copies of both Beck and Berkhart, both claiming to be the real Mysterio. The two heroes escaped and found the one behind the latest attempt was Maguire Beck, Mysterio's cousin who tried to get revenge on the heroes for making Mysterio feel like a loser and kill himself. The heroes, Jameson, Betsy and Joe found out about the robotic copies, but none of them ever actually met Mysterio in the story. As Spider-Man and Daredevil took Maguire away, with Spidey wondering whatever happened to the real Berkhart, Mysterio looked on from the shadows and left with Jack O'Lantern's cat, Maguire, laughing.
He has been missing from the comics since January of 2001 and hasn't been used since. We feel Mysterio should be used in the Spider-comics and this mystery should be resolved.
