The open recreational space the park provides would be compromised by a high school.
Loudoun County has rapidly diminishing open space. With too little dedicated parkland and rapidly rising land costs it would be shortsighted to deliberately surrender any of the county's currently protected park acreage.
The quality of the parkland in Franklin Park, with its mix of wetlands, woods and rolling hills cannot be easily replaced and is cherished by the community as evidenced by a 2005 Leesburg Today survey naming the park as the second most popular park in the entire county.
Co-locating a school at the Franklin Park site would introduce safety concerns in school students sharing common space with adult users of the park and utilization of common roadways to access the park/school site.
Please honor the commitment the county made in expending taxpayer dollars
to purchase and develop the park by maintaining Franklin Park as Western Loudoun's primary regional park.
