Recently, there has been debate over the involvement of the Otago University Students' Association in the national body, the New Zealand Union of Students' Associations.
OUSA currently pays around $90,000 in levies to NZUSA.
Some would argue that this does not reflect value for money, while others would argue that NZUSA is invaluable to students' associations.
Recently, the OUSA Executive pledged not to make a decision on involvement with NZUSA unless they consulted the student body first.
Having a referendum on whether OUSA should remain a member of NZUSA, or whether they should withdraw, is the appropriate method of consultation, and is consistent with practices of other students' associations.
This petition urges the OUSA Executive to call a referendum on that matter.
