Repealing the ban on Doorknock CAS hours

Dear Ms Carlton (and all others that this may concern),

We, the undersigned, write this to you with the view of repealing your view regarding the claiming of the "Red Cross Door Knock" as CAS hours. As it currently stands, we are unable to claim this activity as CAS hours, as it is compulsory.

However, we would urge you to reconsider this decision, with the following points:

1) All members of the student body are required to partake in sport; thus, to all stretches of the imagination, this would undoubtedly qualify sport as being compulsory. Yet, we are able to claim sport as IB CAS hours. Many more examples come to mind: the CAS exam, and the UN model conference, to name a few. This seems to be a contradiction, and thus, for consistency's sake, the compulsory Red Cross Doorknock should be eligible as CAS hours.

2) According to the IBO website, "Service encompasses a host of community and social service activities. Some examples include helping children with special needs, visiting hospitals and working with refugees or homeless people." By all definitions, the actions that were undertaken by the school community that fateful day were "community and social service activities". Should some form of recognition not accompany this? The fact remains that, as a result of our efforts, lives were improved that day. In other words, service was accomplished that day. And this service must not go unnoticed or un-logged.

3) At present, most year 12's within the IB (and, to some extent, year 11's also) are stressed to a point that is alien to us. As is, it is difficult to cope with the everyday challenges that face us, both scholarly or otherwise. The grant of a few CAS hours would do naught but good for us ragged souls.

Ms Carlton, we urge you to reconsider your decision based upon the above points. This movement has wide ranging popular support, as is self-evident in the quantity of signatories. The repealing of this policy regarding the doorknock would be seen by many as infinitely empathetic, and it would certainly be much appreciated by many within the school community.
