Revise the Animal Cruelty Laws in Ohio

We, the undersigned, believe the laws applying to the protection of animals are outdated and need to be reviewed and changed.
Recently, because of your current laws several horses where forced to be returned to a sub-standard situation. These horses were seized from a so-called Equine Rescue, where they were starved, forced to live in over crowed pastures, and to live in filth. These animals did not receive proper Veterinary care, and were left to fend for themselves in a pasture that was pure mud with not a blade of grass to be seen. The abuse and neglect was so obvious to hundreds of people not only in this state, but nation wide who followed this case, certain justice would be served. However, in this case, it was not. The laws, put in place by the State of Ohio failed to protect these animals and even allowed them to return to an abusive and neglectful home.
We are sure these are not the only animals that fell through the cracks of justice, but we sincerely hope they will be the last. If stricter laws had been in place, maybe those fourteen to fifteen horses would have been spared a life in squalor and neglect.
At the very least, laws should be in place to limit the number of horses that can be housed on acreage. Perhaps an acre per horse, as most laws of other states requires. It is in the interest of the animals that we ask the State of Ohio to please reflect on this petition and consider urgently revising the laws of this state to help protect the animals in the future. It is a major injustice that the laws condemned these horses, but maybe if revised, they can protect others in the future.
