RPG Maker XP

By signing below, we are also signifying that we would be willing to buy such a product if it came out. We know that in the past, Agetec and Enterbrain have been leery of releasing their product in America because they feel the community of existing RPG Maker users is too used to pirating their software and will not pay for it. By collecting signatures on this petition, we seek to dispel this myth by showing that many users of the RPG Maker community would be very willing to purchase a legal copy if it were to come out. We are not so greedy as to illegally steal a program we could legally acquire, merely so desperate to make RPGs that we would illegally acquire the program when there are no legal means. We the undersigned agree that if a legal release of RPG Maker XP were to be released, we would cease usage and distribution of any illegitimate copies. Those involved in attempting to create new translated versions agree to cease their activities if a legal version were to be announced. We would gladly forgo any illegitimate versions ourselves as the continued existence of illegal translations would no longer be necessary in the presence of a legal translation. We also agree to discourage others from using illegal releases. Although we cannot control the behavior of others, we can do our best to discourage them by boycotting any illegal translations or hacks of the Japanese product or any illegal "warez" of the English product. Those of us that own websites can take steps such as refusing to distribute the hacked programs. Furthermore, we consent that, in an official release, a copy protection system such as the one manufactured by Pegasys would be important for protecting the hard work of Enterbrain and Agetec and that we would not object to its inclusion in the software nor attempt to bypass it.
The RPG Maker community in America and other countries is large. It has grown this large because of the free distribution of illegal translations, but now Agetec and Enterbrain can leverage this size to their own gain by releasing an official version of RPG Maker XP. We consider this document proof that a large portion of the illegal RPG Maker community would give up their current ways if a legal alternative were presented to them. We hope that Agetec and Enterbrain will heed this petition and seriously consider releasing RPG Maker XP in other languages and countries, specifically releasing it in English in America. We invite Agetec and Enterbrain to come speak with community leaders and discuss what help we as a community can offer them and what we as a community are expecting in an official release.
