Safer Manchester Road (A666) and crossing

The following issues need looking into and resolving ASAP • During peak hours it is impossible to turn right out of Lawefield Crescent or Cedar drive safely onto Manchester Road. • The zebra crossing on Manchester Road is ignored by many drivers; cars rarely stop; it is a danger and impossible to cross safely. I fear that it will only be a matter of time until there is a fatality on this crossing. Investigating this in more detail over the last few weeks and speaking to local residents, I now have many documented incidences from residents of near misses on this crossing; pedestrians on the crossing and cars swerving round pedestrians; cars stopped to allow pedestrians to cross, but then cars on the opposite side not stopping, or cars behind stopped vehicles overtaking – all whilst pedestrians are on the crossing. I even have incidences of people being knocked over on the crossing. The list goes on. The unfortunate issue is that ALL of these incidences are unreported to the police. Hence, when statistics are gathered on the crossing, the crossing appears to be safe. • There are two bus stops on either side of the crossing that impede the visibility of pedestrians trying to cross. The police inform us that the bus stops although close to the crossing are legal. Personally, I do not think that there is an issue with the bus stops, although it is just one other issue around the crossing that doesn’t help its safety. • Speed of the traffic on Manchester Road. There is one speed camera where Manchester Road, turns into Bolton Road on the A666. Prior to this and after this, cars travel at speed. It is a wide, open road, which motorbikes and cars take to be an indicator to travel outside of the 30 mph speed limit. Although I have concerns for the zebra crossing and its safety, I am sure that the speed of vehicles as they approach the crossing is a direct correlation as to why drivers do not stop
