This petition is a campaign to preserve an iconic library in its original charm and essence for the future generations. Anna Centenary Library is a recently built dedicated facility with a collection of over 1.2 million books. This is a purpose built facility with dedicated floors and reading facility for a variety of subjects, people and children. A land mark - In Chennai - committed to Thoughts - allegedly the largest in Asia. Few Reasons why ACL should NOT be moved 1. It is an excellent example of how a Government Building should be built and managed 2. It is located in the vicinity of Anna University, IIT Chennai and other major educational institutions - A purpose built library for the PUBLIC adds greater charm to the surrounding. 3. It is purpose built for a library and has all amenities for a library. The new facility - whatever - will definitely be inferior. Not to mention the wastage of funds in the rehousing. 4. A Bench Mark for all state & private institutions when it comes to creating a centre of excellence 5. Its special amenities such Visually Challenged Section, Conference Rooms, Theaters, Children's section - are simply astounding. 6. Its identified new location already has one other legendary library. For a city in excess of 8 million population it makes simple sense to have them distributed. This is not about DMK. This is not about AIADMK. This is about People, Books & Thoughts.
