Say No to Primark's Compulsory Plastic Bags

This petition started by making a trip to Primark and purchasing a small item. I had already had a bag which would have fitted my purchase in, and said to the shop assistant that I would not require a plastic bag. However the shop assistant then stated that it was company policy to take a bag and then put the purchase into the largest plastic bag. My partner then said that we would not need the ridiculously sized bag and said that company's attitudes needed to change in which the shop assistant said that our attitudes needed to change and she would call store security if we did not take the bag! I couldn't believe how rude the said assistant was in saying that our attitudes needed to change when we trying to be environmental! We did have a receipt for the item which obviously stated that we purchased it. I have since emailed Primark about this policy to see if this was true and their reply can be seen below -

It is the strict policy of this company that all purchases, without exception, be placed in a bag provided for that purpose. This is to provide protection for both our customers and staff and acts as a visible proof of purchase in addition to the till receipts.
As you will appreciate, although a receipt is issued for every item, it is not visible to store detectives and store security guards. Loose garments placed in customers own shopping bags could, therefore, lead to incidents where customers would be requested to return to the store after leaving in order to provide proof of purchase a situation we would obviously want to avoid at any time.

By starting this petition, I am asking that Primark review this policy as I believe the consumer should have a choice in whether they wish to take a bag or not. Many large companies do allow consumers to choose now and I believe that Primark should follow suit.
