WHEREAS: Seton Hall University, labeling itself as a home for all students, first and foremost exists to serve its student population.
WHEREAS: When the needs of the students are compromised by decisions and policies enforced on the student body without their consent or knowledge, students as consumers are not permitted to assert themselves as leaders or consumers in their own education.
SPECIFICALLY: Add/Drop changes, shortening the period of student flexibility, have been instituted without the consultation of students or even the consideration of the impact on student choices, preferences or needs.
SPECIFICALLY: Allocated scheduling policies handed down from the Provost's office, again without student consultation or involvement, serve only the needs of the administration, giving students earlier classes on inconvenient days.
SPECIFICALLY: Student life on campus continues to be impacted by the closed door nature of administrative decisions, including but not limited to the lack of clear truthful explanation on the cancellation of Senator Kerry's campus visit, the restriction of new events, new clubs and organizations, and the overall bureaucracy placed on students purely seeking to improve student life and the campus community.
WHEREAS: Seton Hall student are NOT SATISFIED with the matter in which they are treated by certain members of the administration. Student input is not sought or involved in the development of policies. The will and needs of students are often disregarded in place of efficiency or administrative ease.
WHEREAS: Seton Hall students are NOT SATISFIED with campus life, and the restrictions placed upon them without their consent or involvement. Students pay over $130,000 for a four year education, with little to no opportunity for input as to their educational experience.
WHEREAS: Students seek a voice, an open door, and the truth, if nothing less. The administration underestimates the amount of students who wish to transfer from SHU, leave as quickly as possible, or distance themselves due to the frustrating red-tape and bureaucracy that governs Seton Hall.
BE IT RESOLVED: By signing this petition, we represent our dissatisfaction with the current administrations relations with students, and demand to have a stronger valued input and transparency in all decisions impacting student life.
