Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided is a video game marvel, there is no question about that. However, the excitement of playing the game is tainted by the company Lucas Arts and its oppressive lust for money. Yes, their job is to make a profit, but this is simply outrageous. A customer buying the game pays first for the cost of the actual software, then, after you already own the game, there is a monthly subscription fee in order to actually play it! Paying to play a game you already own? Its highway robbery! I, and Im sure many others would agree, would be willing to pay a higher price once, than to continue paying over and over again. Had I known of this so called subscription fee before I ordered the game, I most likely would not have even bought it. Reading in forums and on several game websites, many players have had to quit playing because they couldnt afford it anymore or because they felt it simply wasnt worth it. This has also changed the minds of several potential consumers who were seriously considering purchasing the game. The main audiences for video gamers are children and teenagers, both of which arent exactly known for having money burning a hole in their pockets. This means video gamers who can otherwise afford the game, but cant afford the monthly subscription, have to rely either on their parents/guardians who are most unlikely to approve of their children spending great amounts of time playing video games, much less having to pay for it themselves or they simply cant have the game. Discarding subscription fees would be beneficial not only to the consumer, but the producer also, as this would mean the sale of more games. If discarding subscription fees makes it necessary to sell the game for 10-30 dollars more, alright. At least the buyer would pay once, then be finished, and not have to think about it anymore.
