Stop onderdrukking Iraanse journalisten

De bewegingsvrijheid van journalisten in Iran staat meer dan eens onder druk. Om absolute controle op de berichtgeving te houden laat de Iraanse overheid journalisten oppakken. Buitenlandse journalisten worden in het meest positieve geval het land uit gezet of de toegang tot het land geweigerd. Iraanse journalisten worden gevangen gezet of onder huisarrest geplaatst. De media die nog mogen doordraaien staan onder strenge censuur.

De Nederlandse Vereniging van Journalisten NVJ, Radio Zamaneh, Sharzad News, Freevoice en Press Now roepen de Iraanse overheid op de journalisten direct vrij te laten en de pers haar werk te laten doen. Ondersteun deze oproep en teken de petitie.

The recent political developments in Iran have increased the pressure on journalists. Journalists have been detained, imprisoned and given house arrest by the security services. Independent reporters have been denied access to places of gathering and protest.

Inside Iran this has led to a breakdown in the free flow of information. Iranians are denied the right to have access to the news and other relevant information related to the elections, let alone the right to freely express themselves.

During the post-election unrests in Iran, 23 journalists have been arrested in 5 different cities of Iran. The total number of journalists in prison has increased to 36.

Also the systematical censorship continues. The authorities have censored and filtered websites, jammed satellite radio and television channels and decreased the speed and access to the internet. Iranian people who make the world news these days, have very limited access to reliable news from outside and inside Iran.
