We hereby ask South African Minister of Environmental affairs,Mr Marthinus Van Schalkwyk to stop canned hunting in South Africa.We hereby also ask for Mr Van Schalkwyk to stop the breeding of all predators in enclosed areas and to take legal action against people who willingly keep predators on their land without permits and to take legal action against any party who do not conform to the rules and regulations stated by the Department of Environmental Affairs
We hereby request the South African Minister of Environmental Affairs, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr. Martinus van Schalkwyk to immediately do a full audit on all lions and other large predators held at all registered and unregistered facilities in South Africa. Idle promises have been made repeatedly that such an audit will be done, but to date no such action had been taken by the Minister's office or on provisional level and the breeding and trading of large predators continues.
We find the large number of lions that have escaped from lion breeding and holding facilities in particularly the Free State Province of South Africa unacceptable and feel it is yet another national disgrace that two innocent people had to die because of the inability of the Minister's office to control the irresponsible lion breeding and trading industries - legal and illegal.
We insist that an audit is done without any further ado and that all illegally kept lions are immediately confiscated and placed in acceptable sanctuaries or rehabilitation centres and that legal lion breeding and holding facilities are inspected immediately to ensure that they are complying with the necessary fencing and safety requirements to ensure the lions and peoples safety.
