Stop The BBC Home Computer Tax

The BBC licence fee could eventually be replaced by a tax on having a PC instead of owning a TV, according to a Green Paper delivered this week (March 2005)

The implications on children's continuing education at home through the use of computers as well as the impact on general computer literacy are immeasurable, and this will send the UK into the computer dark ages.

It would be more logical to adopt a package option, not unlike other TV channel providers, so that you can choose to pay for what you want to view, rather then an in forced licence fee for something many may not even choose to view.

The licence fee itself is archaic and the BBC needs to catch up to the 21st century and provide real choices that the viewer demands rather then this continued enforcement for something many choose not view, yet have to pay for regardless.

The current licence fee and projected replacement are not acceptable in both their current forms. The licence fee payer is the viewing customer, and as such should be consulted on the licence and its continued impact on them and their rights, with the possibility of ending the licence and fee paying all together.
