The status of the Dancing bears in the streets of India is sad and these magnificent animals should not be tortured as "Dancing bears"
Mostly sloth bears are used as dancing bears by Kalandar Tribesmen. Each dancing bear undergo the following ordeal.
>> All the Dancing bears are poached from the forests of India when they are barely few weeks old by poachers. Often the mother bear who try her best to protect the cubs get killed by the poachers
>>The cubs are sold for a few hundred rupees to traders and the cubs are sold over and over again until it reaches in the hands of a Bear dancer. 50\% of them fail to make it as they die during the transportation due to stress, unhygienic conditions & starvation
>> The bear dancers knock out the teeth using a metal road and pierce the nose muzzle with a red hot crude iron needle to place the plastic rope or a metal ring. ALL THESE DONE WITH OUT ANESTHESIA in unhygienic conditions.
>> The training is a mixture of physical torture such as beating, pulling the rope, hitting hard on the already swollen muzzle along with starvation.
>> The bears are forced to perform for tourists for more than 12 hours a day. The Bear dancers take turn but the animal has to perform in the hot dusty highways & busy streets among speeding vehicles.
>> Most of the dancing bears fail survive more than five seven years as they die due to leptospirosis, rabies, TB etc. Some become completely blind due to severe malnutrition.

PLEASE DO NOT PAY THE BEAR DANCER FOR THE CRUEL ROAD SHOWS.
We can make a difference to the lives of hundreds of dancing bears, dancing on the streets. Please sign this petition. I am going to submit this to WILDLIFE SOS ( Which runs the only Dancing bear rescue facility in India) and the PRIME MININISTER Dr. Manmohan Singh personally to put an end to the miseries of the Dancing bears in India.
