Stop Usage-Based Billing... Or Bill Us By Mail

With the CRTC's approval of usage-based internet billing, we can expect unbridled price-gouging across Canada for this essential service. The government has shown that it has far more interest in pleasing large corporations than in serving Canadian citizens. With that in mind, I propose we do as one cbc.ca commenter recommended and send a message to those companies that save money by billing us electronically. Have those companies considered that their customers, under this new system, will be strongly motivated to return to mailed bills? Here is the message we need to send our utility companies, banks, and other e-billers--including the ISPs themselves: "As your customers, we enjoy the convenience of online billing. We also know that online billing is good for the environment and that it saves companies a lot of time and money every year. We would be happy to continue to receive our bills this way. However, the new internet usage-based billing recently approved by the CRTC will mean we have no choice but to become highly selective about our internet traffic (or, in some cases, to drop internet service entirely.) Please make sure your MPs know that usage-based billing will inconvenience your customers and cost you money, as we, the undersigned, choose to go back to mail-outs of our bills." Please sign this petition, which will be forwarded to utilities, banks and ISPs across Canada--as well as other companies recommended by you. Thank you.
