Stop violation of human rights
for death row inmates within Union Correctional Institution, Raiford, Florida

We, the petitioners want to express our grave concerns about the conditions for death row inmates within Union Correctional Institution, in Raiford, Florida, which are becoming more and more unbearable by the day. Over two years ago, Mr. Michael Moore, was named to the position of Secretary of Corrections, and during those two years he has introduced many new, and negative changes--all to the detriment of the prisoners, and all unnecessary. These changes were brought about solely for the purpose of taking any remaining privileges away from the prisoners, and to strip them of any remaining vestiges of humanity, to break their spirits, and to further penalize and punish them. The prisoners are suffering from inhuman treatment every single day; this must be stopped!

Family, friends and people from all over the world who are concerned with the treatment of those within the penal system abhor this inhumane situation. We believe, that it is not acceptable for those in power use their authority to take away all essential things from the prisoners. It doesn't matter what a person did during their lifetime, every human being has the right to fair and humane treatment. It is not the responsibility of the Department of Corrections to punish it's prisoners, that is the job of the justice system, the Department's job is solely to house and care for these human beings. I recommend they think about what humane treatment and human dignity is all about, I ask by signing this petition that Secretary Moore reinstate the lost privileges. To make what we are talking about more visible, we have listed just some the changes in the last two years, all of which Secretary of Corrections, Mr. Michael Moore, is responsible for:

- almost every week rules are changing ;- constant punishment of the inmates ;- writing a disciplinary report for ridiculous reasons ;- take the privilege for visits away ;- read the in - and out coming mail to and from prisoners ;- refuse mail to the prisoners ;- interfering in family and other relationships ;- long procedure for children ( criminal check up for kids ! ) ;- constant harassment of visitors ;- lost the visits on both weekend days ;- lost the three visits days for overseas visitors ;- lost to share pictures in the visitors room ;- no cups in the visitors room ;- attempt to keep the inmates away from the media ; - limited visiting to law library ;- lost the hobby crafts ;- limited / regular cancel of yard time ;- no shelter for the sun ;- no sun lotion or medical treatment when the inmates have a sunburn ; - lost the balls to play sport ;- lost the showers after yard time ;- no washing soap to wash clothes ;- lost the clothes lines to dry clothes ;- the meals are cold ;- limited cleaning for cell and dinner things ;- limited access to the canteen ;- canteen prices went up (price of security pens are ridiculous!);- the long waiting list for televisions ;- lost the general electric radios ;- inhuman rules to transport inmates from their cells ;- wire mesh in cells is a hindrace to get attention of a officer ( medical emergency or fire ! ) ;- temperature in the cell : the heat in the summer / cold in the winter ;- long procedure to get medical treatment ;- short coming in medical treatment ;

With this petition we say NO to these inhumane conditions, and urge you to use your power to return to humane conditions for the prisoners. Do not forget that we - the people of this world - are not closing our eyes and we will not stop spreading the word, until you stop violating, and begin restoring the basic human rights of these prisoners.
