Sustainable Energy Now

Over the course of the last 150 years, humans have extracted and burned approximately one half of the worlds estimated 2 trillion barrels of petroleum oil. As result of this, the planet has higher carbon dioxide levels and warmer average temperatures than it has had in the last 400,000 years. Some of the effects of this global warming, such as the melting of the polar ice caps, rising sea levels, degradation of coral reefs, and poor air quality throughout the globe, are undeniable, while its other, more complicated, impacts are yet to be discovered and fully understood. Continued use of petroleum oil will pump another trillion barrels worth of these harmful greenhouse gasses into our atmosphere, compounding and amplifying an already critical situation. We must immediately develop and implement alternatives to fossil fuel usage and its potentially catastrophic consequences for our planet and its inhabitants.

We the undersigned demand:

* Government funding for research and development of renewable and sustainable fuel sources such as biodiesel, vegetable oil as diesel fuel, wind, and solar power.
* Tax breaks and incentives to private parties using and developing biodiesel, vegetable oil as diesel fuel, wind, and solar power.
* Tax breaks and incentives to companies that research, develop, grow, manufacture, and/or distribute biodiesel, vegetable oil fuel systems, wind, solar, and other renewable energy options.
* The fuel efficiency standards are immediately raised to at least double the current levels, and the SUV fuel efficiency loopholes are ended.
* Government mandates requiring auto manufacturers to introduce high efficiency, diesel engine vehicles that are optimized for the use of biodiesel and vegetable oil as fuel.
* Immediately ratification and implementation of the Kyoto Protocols.
* Government commitments to end the use of fossil fuels by the year 2020.
