TaeKwonDo - Main Street Safety Concerns

This petition pertains to citizens of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL regarding pedestrian and traffic safety on Main Street. There are many business located on this thoroughfare, one of which is Central Martial Arts. There are a number of different classes which caters to various age groups from 4yo to adults.

The names here represent the concerns of parents, business owners, customers and citizens regarding the speed, safety and number of "near-misses"  involving pedestrians, particularly children and vehicles on Main Street.

We are requesting that town council address these concerns by installing appropriate safety measures, such as speed bumps and/or overhead crosswalk signage to help alert drivers to pedestrian crossing and to slow traffic to appropriate and safe speeds.

The presence of town police and RCMP patrols, although has increased from previous years, has been inadequate in addressing these safety concerns. As the town of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL promotes health, safety and wellbeing of its citizens, more and more people are availing of active lifestyles, and the amount of pedestrian traffic and enrollment of students to Central Martial Arts has increased over the years, culminating in increased risk of injury and/or accidents in this area.
