This has meant that people can be denied entry, evicted without cause, denied use of the facilities such as bathroom, hot water and shower, and harassed with no legal recourse.
Removal of the following line would mean that lodging and boarding house tenants would be included in the definition of 'premises'. This means they would be covered by the Residential Tenancies Act. This would include access to the rentalsman and all the rights and protections granted within the Residential Tenancies Act.
Therefore, we offer the following petition:
Whereas, current law in New Brunswick does not recognize
basic human rights of lodging house and boarding house tenants;
and, whereas, this equality can be achieved by rescinding Article 1 (1), section (e); being the definition of "Premises", of Chapter R-10.2; being "The Residential Tenancies Act", which states:
"Article 1 (1) "Premises"
(e) does not include a room in a boarding house or lodging house"
We hereby request the rescinding of section (e), of Article 1(1) of Chapter R-10.2; being "The Residential Tenancies Act"
