THE DC SMALL BUSINESS TAX RELIEF AND SUPPORT CAMPAIGN

Whereas, as a small business owner, manager, employee, and/or patron of DC Small Business:

I believe that small businesses provide unique and extremely valuable services to the neighborhoods of Washington, DC by
Providing a diversity of needed products and services for residents and visitors,
Creating a complete range of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for District residents, and
Generating of considerable portion of the citys sale, income, BID, and other tax revenue

I maintain that such businesses are an asset to be retained, respected and recruited to further invest in and enhance the quality of life in Washington DC.

Whereas, as a small business owner, manager, employee, and/or patron of DC Small Business:

I support a lower commercial property tax rate that benefits small business, with the retention of our longtime businesses through equitable tax relief, with the development of early small business investments in our neighborhoods and downtown, and with the growth, expansion and attraction of small businesses in all neighborhoods and commercial districts in Washington DC.

Therefore, as a small business owner, manager, employee, and/or patron of DC Small Business:

I request a reduction in the DC commercial property tax rate of $1.65 per $100 of assessed value, a considerably higher rate than any other jurisdiction in the metro region, to a rate that reduces the extreme financial burdens that have been placed on small businesses operating in the city.

Therefore, as a small business owner, manager, employee, and/or patron of DC Small Business:

I further request that the DC Government work with the small business community to get pro-bono legal help to develop workable legislation that meaningfully targets the small business community for relief.

Therefore, as a small business owner, manager, employee, and/or patron of DC Small Business:

I further request that the DC Government apply a portion of my current taxes to specifically focus on resources, programs, and legislation to support small businesses and to remove the barriers that make operating and developing small businesses difficult in Washington DC.
