In light of the upcoming budget cuts for the University System of Georgia affecting the University of West Georgia, the loss of multiple faculty and staff positions appears unavoidable. In acknowledgment of this unfortunate circumstance, the undersigned students feel a responsibility to voice our opinion on the retention of certain faculty members, specifically, Dr. Thomas J. Brommage. His position as a non-tenured, short-term faculty member unfairly places his employment in great jeopardy during this budget crisis. We believe that Dr. Brommage's retention is vital to the growth and strength of our university's philosophy program, and to discontinue his employment on the basis of budget cuts rather than his performance and the success of his students is a disservice both to Dr. Brommage and the students he so greatly influences. We wholeheartedly ask you to take his retention into consideration when budgeting for the upcoming fiscal year.
