Wirral Council IT Job Losses

One of they ways they are going to do this is to restrict recruitment. What they also are going to do is cease renewing temporary contracts.
Temporary contracts were introduced as the main way of employing people for the ease of "letting them go" when the time was right, well, that time appears to have come and Distributed systems is going to be hit.
There were a number of unfilled permanent posts available in the Distributed systems and six filled temporary posts, instead of moving the employee's over to the posts they were deleted from the system and now we are threatened with losing our jobs.
Reductions in staffing will erode the service that Distributed systems provide to 12000 customers. At the moment there is only about 1 member of staff per 240 customers and their I.T. Equipment.
This is nonsensical: in a recession, the government should be investing more, not less, in services. If billions of pounds are available to bail out private banks and their rich shareholders, then there is certainly funding available for local authorities.
I myself have been on such a contract since January 2009. Some of us have been here over 3 years under "Temporary" contract.
We all enjoy working for the authority and would very much like to continue to do so.
We ask Cllr Jeff Green to rethink this strategy and recreate the deleted posts and move us in to them.
