Yo Quiero Univision

This Honolulu TV Station, Univision Hawaii KHLU-TV, is owned by the only locally owned television station broadcasting company in the state of Hawaii.
For 11 years since March 2000 the Honolulu television station Univision Hawaii KHLU-TV has been broadcasting Univisions Spanish language programming 24 hours a day through the airwaves on UHF channel 46 to Oahus huge Hispanic community. Hispanics greatly enjoy Univision which is the number one most watched, Spanish language television programming in America. But because this Honolulu TV station is not on cable it cannot properly serve Hawaiis large Hispanic community.
In a March 11, 2011 article in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Oceanic Cable said it doesnt think Hawaii has enough Hispanics to justify having their own cable channel. That doesnt make sense. The 2010 U.S. Census finds Hawaiis Hispanic population in the last decade increased a stunning 38\% to 120,842 Hispanics which is 9\% of the states population. The 2010 Census number doesnt include: the thousands of Hispanics stationed in Hawaii in the military and their family members, and the many Hispanic foreign students studying in Hawaii. And the Census doesnt include the approximately 12,000 non-Hispanic students studying Spanish in Hawaii schools and colleges -- and they will watch Univision to better learn their Spanish. Spanish is the most taught language in Hawaii after English.
If this Honolulu TV station was given its own channel on Oceanic Cable, Univision Hawaii could:
Create locally-produced Spanish TV news broadcasts
Create local programming, content, commercials, and advertising
Provide jobs and internships for individuals interested in Spanish-language television
Train Hawaiis motivated Hispanic youth and adults in professional skills for careers in Hispanic television broadcasting
Muchas Gracias.
